Claims handlers work for the individual or company looking for compensation through their insurance. They aim to get the claim resolved as quickly as possible and with the best possible result for the client. They also make sure the insurers hand over the money if the client is within their rights to claim. They control the whole process from the beginning to the end and ensure all the details are recorded that need to be.
This does mean that claims handlers are proficient in writing, communicating with individuals and high level executives and need to make judgements on the right service and compensation for the client.
What would a claims handler earn?
The wages vary depending on what level and experience they have as with all jobs. Juniors could expect to earn between 13,000 and 18,000 a year but those with more experience, and by job role, more responsibilities could expect to earn anything from 30,000 to 100,000 and above!

Getting into claims is relatively easy, having a pro-active attitude and attention to detail will likely land you the job on merit. Having a degree in almost any subject would also be of benefit, due to the nature of the job there are certain degrees that are more appropriate such as science, engineering, accountancy, mathematics, law or business management.
Having the ability to self manage and prioritise is also key, missing a deadline can mean the difference between ensuring a client receives the compensation they deserve and getting nothing. This can mean long hours and some stressful periods when workloads are at a high. For the most part though the role has an excellent work / life balance which makes it very desirable to many.
There are often graduate roles available which are great stepping stones into the industry, proving yourself in a graduate role can really push you up the career ladder quickly and get you closer to that top wage!
