subject: Hypnosis To Stop Smoking &things To Do Before And After Session [print this page] I think it was Mark Twain who said: I think it was Mark Twain who said:
"Quitting smoking is easy. I've done it a thousand times."
But then he didnt have access to the benefits of Hypnosis to Stop Smoking.
These days everyone has the option to quit smoking with hypnosis.
In fact it is one of the most common ways hypnosis is used and it is likely to be the most effective.
Hypnosis to stop smoking has a higher success rate than any of the physical means available on the market today, including nicotine gums, patches and pills.
This is because hypnosis deals with the strong subconscious mind where the smoking habit resides, whereas the patches and pills are just dealing with the conscious mind, which has much less influence.
There are a number of quit smoking programs using hypnosis.
Some are designed to assist the smoker to quit immediately in one session. Others are taken a bit slower and may involve something like a Ten Steps to Stop Smoking Program. Either is great, it just depends on what suits the client. At QuitFast for Life we use the one session method for most people.
Whatever hypnosis method is used, preparation before the hypnosis session and follow up after it are most important.
BEFORE the session:
1:Get rid of all cigarettes, tobacco and smoking paraphernalia such as fancy ashtrays or lighters. Do this at home and in your workplace or wherever you spend your time during the day.
Just throw them out. Do NOT give them away to friends or relatives. This might seem like a nice thing to do but if seen by the ex-smoker they could act as a trigger to smoke. They must be thrown where they cannot be retrieved.
And why would you want to give a friend or relative packs of what you now know to be POISON?
Dont forget the ashtray in your car. This must be cleaned out and deodorised so that the car does not smell of cigarettes. Its probably a good idea to wash all clothes that may smell of smoke as well.
2:Place glasses of water in every spot where there used to be an ashtray or pack of cigarettes. This way the habit of being a non smoker will be reinforced by taking a sip of water whenever that spot is passed by.
AFTER the Session:
During the hypnosis session clients are given a suggestion to replace the smoking habit with the habit of drinking water wherever practical.
1:Remember the glasses of water you put in every spot where there used to be an ashtray or pack of cigarettes? By taking a sip of water whenever that spot is passed by you will be reinforcing the habit of being a Non Smoker.
It will also lessen the likelihood of gaining weight and using water instead of food to replace cigarettes is much healthier.
2:Finally, if at any time you do have a craving for a cigarette, just remember it will pass quickly. You should give it at least two minutes before acting on it.
What you do is this:
Take five deep breaths, drink some water and the craving will go away.
Deep breathing involves breathing into the lower part of your lungs. This deep breathing is essential. It increases the oxygen in the bloodstream which in turn will relax you and the stress you may be feeling. Moving the diaphragm with deep breathing is the quickest way to let your body know you are safe.
If you are struggling, it helps to place your open hand on the top of your chest, at the base of your throat. This helps you to relax and breathe past that area, allowing the air to go to the bottom of your lungs and this may be why you see people who have had a shock doing just that. It releases constriction in the throat.
If you put these things in place you are maximising your chances or a successful and easy experience.
