This single-pass membrane protein is highly glycosylated and phosphorylated by protein kinase C. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have also been found for this gene. CD 34 is expressed on lymph node endothelia whereas the L-selectin to which it binds is on the T cell.Conversely, under other circumstances CD34 has been shown to act as molecular "Teflon" and block mast cell adhesion, or to facilitate opening of vascular lumens.
