subject: How To Get Over Being Shy - 4 Tips [print this page] I am not sure that someone can ever really do a complete turnabout and go from being shy to never feeling shy at all. There are always going to be situations where you happen to feel that way and that is probably something that is always going to be there. However, I do know that there are some things that you can do that will help you get over your shyness in a lot of situations and that can be more than enough if you are finding that being shy tends to be something that gets in the way for you living the life that you want to live.
Here are 4 tips that will help you get over being shy in a lot of situations:
1. Try to get out your head and just be in the zone wherever you are.
People that tend to be shy also tend to over think things a bit too much. You might find yourself starting to think about the way that you look to others or you might start to feel self conscious about how you are standing or what others might think about you if you speak up. However, it does help if you force yourself to get out of your own head and stop all of that self analyzing and just try to be in the zone wherever you are.
2. Take advantage of situations where you don't feel quite so shy to push yourself.
One of the worst things that you can do, I think, is to put yourself in a situation that you really feel shy in and then try to force yourself to not be that way. I think that it is much more effective if you take a situation where you feel a little bit on the shy side and then force yourself to be a little less that way in that particular instance. Think of it like taking baby steps if you want.
3. Get used to socializing in groups.
In my own life, I have found that the more I got used to socializing in groups, the less shy I was in other situations. You kind of just get used to it, I guess. So, this might be something that you want to try out if you tend to be on the shy side.
4. Find a group that has the same interests as you and use that as a situation where you force yourself to get up and talk.
Usually people will tell you to go to one of those Toastmasters meetings to get over being shy. The only thing about that is, they may not be the kind of people that you would normally want to be around and that can be kind of hard to deal with. On the other hand, if you can find a group where the people do have the same interests as you do, it can feel a lot easier to get up and speak in front of them, because you feel like you are on the same wavelength.
