subject: Find A Home Phone Thats Right For You [print this page]

Although the majority of people these days own a mobile phone, even children as young as ten, it is still true that the home phone remains a popular choice for many people when it comes to speaking with friends and family, particularly over long distances. The main reason that the home phone still holds a large appeal for many people is because there are so many different models available, all of which come with a variety of different features. In fact it is arguable that because there is such a wide selection of different models and types of home phone the choice of which to pick can sometimes be quite a hard one to make. Unfortunately there is no obvious choice that suits everyone, as the decision is most likely to be determined by what your specific requirements are. There are three main types of home phone that are on the market today.

The traditional landline Although this model might seem dated to many of you it still has a number of advantages over its newer counterparts. Firstly the traditional landline phone provides a service that is reliable and secure, this is something that will no doubt appeal to the majority of people. Furthermore the traditional landline is the only communications device that does not require electricity to operate, so in the event of a power cut it can be very useful. Another reason that this phone might be attractive is its low cost, corded landlines are the cheapest home phone option available so for anyone working within a budget this option should certainly be considered.

Cordless telephones Cordless phones these days come with quite a significant range of different features. A basic model will allow you to move freely around your home, come with illuminated keypads and of course the extremely useful caller ID feature. Models in a slightly higher price bracket will also allow you to send SMS messages, provide signal on a low battery life and transfer contact numbers from a SIM card.

VoIP phones As the Internet becomes ever more ingrained into society we are now seeing higher broadband speeds than ever before, and with these increased speeds the potential for communicating online is becoming increasingly apparent. Functioning in the same way that a regular telephone does, a VoIP phone allows the user to make their calls via the Internet; this means that long distance and international calls can be made for little or no extra cost. So if you communicate with people over long distances a VoIP phone should certainly be considered. The only drawback of this model is the fact that you are relying solely on your Internet connection for all your communication needs.
