[print this page] Let us face the reality that the older we get, the more we have going on in our lives and along with all other responsibilities our health takes the back seat. Its hard to work, take care of children and juggle everything else going on in our lives, yet still have time to worry about our health. Heck its hard to worry about our familys health. Most of us are lucky to fit in a meal, much less one that is considered to be healthy. We let ourselves go and for a large percentage of Americans we watch our weight go, up that is. So what is the problem with that? The problem is that the more we let our weight go the more we let our health go. Being overweight is very unhealthy. Just by being overweight we increase our risk of many diseases and complications such as stroke, heart disease, certain types of cancer, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and sleep apnea just to name a few.
Many ask the question, can I lose weight? Can I lose weight without exercising? You most certainly can. You will need to train yourself on how to eat the right kinds of foods and how to maintain good portion control which is not a bad idea. Can I lose weight just by doing a little walking, or maybe even running? Exercising is never a bad idea and is proven to be good for your health but you still need to burn more calories than you are consuming for good weight loss to happen. Many of us have tried to lose weight at some point in our lives and there are a number of reasons as to why we dont succeed. Whether it is the lack of time that we are able to commit to our weight loss journey, setting unrealistic goals, cost of nutritious foods, lack of support we are able to get from friends and family or the lack of the variety of foods we are able to consume on our diet. In part, the definition of health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well- being. Now, does that not sound nice? How many of us are uncomfortable just thinking about the words physical, mental and social well-being? How many of us shy away from everyday situations in life because we are overweight and uncomfortable with those words? Im here to tell you that it doesnt have to be that way. Earlier I explained to you some of the reasons why we dont succeed at our weight loss efforts. What if I could tell you that there was a way to scratch all of those reasons off your list?
