There are also many other castles that speak volumes about the extraordinary craftsmenship of the Portuguese colonizers. The Cinelandia Square or the Floriano Square used to host the best movies of the city. Though most of thecinem halls have closed down, the place still throbs with life due to the restaurants and bars. If you are a bookworm, you must visit the national Library that is situated in this area.

SANTA TERESA

It is one of the oldest neighbourhoods, that was once inhabited by the elite people of the city. It evokes a sense of nostalgia for the bygone eras. The sea and the bay contribute to the beauty of the place. Climbing to the top of the mountains will give you a panoramic view of the city. It is located about 5 minutes from Rios business district. You can also get a tram-ride to this bohemian neighbourhood.

MONUMENTO NACIONAL AOS MORTOS DA II GUERRA MUNDIAL

This monument was built in the memory of those who had lost their lives in World War II. It is believed to have been inaugurated in 1750, it is guarded by three Armed Forces. The monument has a museum that displays some of the memorabilia of the military. There is also a Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It is located at Avenida Infante Dom Henrique.
