Its considered the resort with the best food and aprs-ski/nightlife in the whole Trois Valles with several Michelin stars and forks to its name. Check out Chabichou and/or Le Bateau Ivre, both with two Michelin stars even if your chalet catering is flawless, you wont want to miss the creations at these places.
As for the nightlife, aprs-ski activities in Courchevel are lively and upscale definitely the place to see and be seen. The most famous place is Bar Le Jump, but there are many more that also become crowded after the slopes close.

If the kids are very young, one may want to search for their ski holiday at one of the Courchevel villages that are on a lower altitude than Courchevel 1850, to ensure that the young ones wont need to contend with the thinner air and subsequent problems children have with thinner air.
