subject: Effective Herpes Remedies [print this page]

Herpes can be a tremendously uncomfortable experience, and it has the potential to cause a great deal of embarrassment in a social setting as well. While the virus will remain in the human body for years after the initial infection, and cause recurring symptoms, most people respond favorably to herpes remedies, and can generally live healthy lives without the symptoms affecting their lives to a significant degree.

Some of the more commonly used remedies for herpes are therapeutic baths. Epsom salts can be very useful for this purpose, and they have the effect of cleansing the sores while helping speed up the drying process. An Epsom salt bath will also have a soothing effect on the skin and provide some relief for the itching and tenderness that are so often characteristic of the condition. This is one of the most inexpensive remedies for herpes available, and you can purchase them from most grocery stores and pharmacies.

For best results, it is advisable to mix a large handful of Epsom salt and mix it into your warm bath water. You can soak in the bath for as long as you wish, although most people will get the maximum benefits by soaking for about 10 to 20 minutes. As an alternative to Epsom salts, you may also take a dip in the ocean if you live near the beach.

Although not a herpes remedy per se, over-the-counter pain relievers can be invaluable for the recovery and healing process. Some of the sores that will result from the condition can be very painful and cause a great deal of discomfort, and aspirin, acetaminophen ibuprofen, or paracetamol can work wonders in terms of easing the pain. For more severe cases wherein the sores cause a great deal of pain, your doctor may prescribe more potent painkillers to help you deal with the condition.

For some cases, the remedies for herpes may simply involve avoiding tight fitting clothing. It would be best to wear looser underwear when trying to recover from the condition, and you might even want to consider not wearing any underwear at all. Cotton is also a much better option than nylon or other synthetic fabrics, since the latter can cause even more irritation to the already sensitive skin. By keeping the sores uncovered, you may be able to help speed up the healing process considerably even without any additional remedies for herpes.

One of the most frequent complaints about herpes sufferers is pain and difficulty when urinating. While there are hardly any remedies for herpes that can help you with this particular symptom, urinating in cool water or while the shower is running may help make the pain a little bit more tolerable. To help ease the pain even more, it would be helpful to drink the recommended amount of water every day.

Herbal teas may also be useful as part of your herpes treatment program. Providing a calming and soothing effect on the body, this could make it easier for you to deal with the condition.
