subject: Laser Treatment For Acne [print this page]

Acne laser treatment is one of the hottest new technologies in the skin care industry, and it shows tremendous promise for people in whom traditional remedies have not produced any significant results. Despite a few drawbacks it seems that using laser for acne treatment could be one of the most effective treatment solutions for getting rid of acne.

One of the main reasons why so many people go for the laser treatment of acne is that it largely avoids the use of harsh chemicals that may further irritate the skin. For people that have had to deal with the side effects of many commercially available acne solutions, the promise of avoiding side effects caused by harsh topical solutions is enough reason to consider laser treatment for acne.

That being said, it is important to note that using laser for acne treatment is not usually the sole treatment required. In fact, many dermatologists treat severe cases of acne with a combination of acne laser treatment and other treatment procedures that may include the use of topical solutions. Laser treatment of acne is therefore not always a guarantee that you will be able to avoid the use of chemical-based topical solutions, although you will not have to rely solely on these solutions for the treatment of your acne.

As effective as laser treatment of acne can be, there are a few drawbacks as mentioned previously. For starters, there is no guarantee that the solution will work for everyone 100% of the time, and in the same degree. While some people may respond favorably to laser treatment for acne and show significant improvement in as little as a few weeks, some people may require much longer period of acne laser treatment before showing signs of improvement. Different people may get varying degrees of improvement as well, and some may not show any improvement at all. There really is no way of knowing whether or not using laser for acne treatment will be effective for you until after you have gone through treatment. This in itself can be a significant drawback for people who are looking for a surefire solution to their problem with acne.

Laser treatment for acne can also be quite expensive, and most insurance plans do not cover such procedures. If you do decide-after consultation with your dermatologist-that laser for acne treatment is indeed the best option for you and your insurance will not cover it, you may have to spend a significant amount of money on a procedure that is not guaranteed to work.

All this isn't meant to dissuade you from acne laser treatment if you have exhausted all other options. However it does mean that you should only decide on laser treatment for acne after consultation with your personal dermatologist and careful consideration of all the other options. If you do decide to go with laser for acne treatment, you just may find the one solution that will work when so many others have failed.
