subject: Home Bug- Causes, Consequence, Prevention [print this page] South Carolina and Charleston have humid subtropical climate with hot summers. And humidity is idea for bug nesting and breeding. Thus, a major problem of these areas becomes the ever pestering bugs. We shall carefully study the reasons, causes and preventions of these house bugs in our houses.
Its an honest fact that several articles written on how to make your home bug free give solutions which are not only hard to conduct but in blunt words: impossible. They suggest you to keep your home spotlessly clean. With work load, busy, tight schedules, it takes a lot to maintain a house. Its irrational to demand spotless cleanliness. And when you don't have spotless homes, bugs do tend to invade your homes. So rightfully stated it is a general problem.
Since its a general problem, general easy-to-do solutions will be suggested. For starters, regularly cleaning and disinfecting the kitchen keeps bugs away. Food splatters on the back splash are meals to hungry bugs and drops of water on the countertops and in the sink is a cool drink of water for thirsty bugs. Its a nasty thought having your home as a restaurant to hungry bugs.
Turn off the lights or at least dim them, especially outside entrance lights. Moths and cockroaches are attracted to light,, lights near entrances will attract pests and those pests will find a way to get inside. Install motion sensor lighting that will only come on when someone comes home. Its a very convenient act that will keep your house from bugs.
Remove outdoor attractions so bugs won't find your home so inviting. Leaf debris, firewood, water hose or any object that can hold water located near the foundation of your house invites bugs inside. Bugs will attend the outdoor attractions, breed and enter your home through the foundation; mosquitoes will multiply themselves in as little as a cup of stagnant water.
The above stated were preventions. Now lets see what can be done if the invaders that are bugs have already found accommodation in your households.
When it's too late and the bugs have already infiltrated your home, it's time to fight back. Ant or roach baits are more effective than traps or sprays. The baits serve irresistible poisoned food to the bugs which they indefinitely take back to their accommodations with them and poison their colonies. Keep the vacuum cleaner with attachment nozzle handy and vacuum up spiders and their webs as soon as they are seen. Empty the vacuum bin into an airtight trash bag, seal and place in outside trash can.
But we cannot deny the fact here that things do get messy and its time to ring up a pest control professional. Hopefully, things wont be gone that far to need one.
