subject: Events In Verona, International Crib Show In Art And Tradition [print this page] During Christmas time the appointments with art and Christmas shows increase and the ones organized by Italian cities comprehend Christmas markets, music events and crib shows, like the one that takes place in Verona.
The most ancient tradition in Italy is the Christmas markets, which come originally from the Nordic tradition, which dates back to the XIV century in Germany and Alsace and is called Saint Nicholas Market, even if the first market of which we have an evidence, dates back to 1434 in Dresden, and was called Striezelmarkt, from the name of the typical German cake.
For what concerns the cribs shows, one of the most famous and ancient ones is the one that since twenty-nine years ago takes place in the centre of the romantic city par excellence, Verona; the city of Romeo and Juliet indeed hosts inside the Arena the International crib show in art and tradition, which is the favorite attraction of the hundreds of tourists and local people, which visit the city during Christmas time.
This year the crib show in Verona will take place from the 1st December to the 20th of January 2013 and will be open all days included holidays- from 9.00 to 20.00. The show is the unique occasion to see the Arena in a new perspective and to know its details: the guided tour is indeed organized in the Amphitheatre corridors, which for this occasion will be lighted by warm lights, images of Saints, Re Magi and ancient Madonna, which will make the visit to region and international cribs and dioramas, unique.
The event is always successful as it manages to renew in every edition, bringing inside the amphitheatre more than four hundred cribs, which are work of arts, coming from various Countries from all around the world: a lot come from Europe, Africa and Latin America, but also Chorea, China and Japan. For what concerns Italian regional cribs, a lot of space is dedicated to the ones from South Italy, especially from Calabria, but also Tuscany and Umbria. A different section will then be dedicated to dioramas, chosen among the most beautiful in the world.
The show symbol is really recognizable and indeed it is a huge illuminated comet which for 29 years has been illuminating Bra Square and contributes to the creation of the Christmas atmosphere. The star, impressive archisculpture, was created twenty-nine years ago, contextually with the Crib Show, but even if its main function was to make the Show recognizable and to connect the inner part of the Arena with the big square area, with the passing of time it has been appreciated for its beauty and now it is considered a work of art in itself.
The star was born from an intuition of Alfredo Troisi and was created by Architect Rinaldo Olivieri, which realized the original idea of the project that considering the empty area inside the arena and the ancient huge square- was meant to be a connection between the Arena area and the urban space, an explosion of light, colors and dynamic shapes.
