subject: My Boyfriend Cheated On Me - Should I Forgive Him Or Not? [print this page]

Finding out that your boyfriend has been unfaithful to you is one of the more shocking revelations that a woman can have to deal with. You might feel a rush of emotions come over you and that can cause you to feel very confused about the entire situation. There might be a part of you that wants to understand why he did what he did and then, there also might be a part of you that doesn't want to hear a peep come out of him about the whole ordeal. What you are probably going to wonder about, is whether or not you should forgive him?

This is my take on this subject:

It all depends on exactly what happened and how it happened. Some people will have emotional affairs and even though that might be devastating, it might be something that you are able to work through if you try to. Then, there are the physical affairs and those can be really tough to deal with. Of course, the emotional affairs can be just as tough to handle as well, so it really comes down to the circumstances and how you feel about it and how you feel about your boyfriend.

If you were already considering that the relationship might not be right for you and then you find out that he cheated, then you might just be better off with dumping him. On the other hand, if your relationship was going strong and this might just be a one time indiscretion, then you might want to lean towards the idea of working on forgiving him.

Whatever decision that you make, you want to realize that it can take some time to deal with finding out that your boyfriend cheated on you. Even if you do end up trying to forgive him, that doesn't mean that you are not going to still find yourself feeling angry or feeling insecure. That's going to be normal to feel that way and that is why working through a situation like this can be so hard.

It can be just as hard if you do decide that you can't forgive him for what he did and you do decide to end the relationship. You may find that you can't allow yourself to trust as easily as you once did. You might find that you are a little standoffish towards any guy who approaches you. No matter what you decide to do, you owe it to yourself to try your best to work through this situation. You don't want it to end up causing you to feel victimized or damaged or like you can't trust anyone ever again. So, the decision of whether or not you are going to forgive him is up to you, but just know that whatever decision you make... it is probably not going to be easy.
