Surat, located on the banks of Tapti River in the state of Gujarat is a well developed commercial city and also the administrative capital of Surat district. Mumbai, capital city of the state of Maharashtra is the most populated metropolitan city in India. Bounded by the Arabian Sea on the west it is the administrative, commercial and financial capital of Maharashtra. It houses Bollywood (Hindi film industry), important financial institutions, headquarters of Indian and multinational companies and generates 5% of Indias GDP. Surat is well connected to Mumbai via road, rail and air.

By road it is at a distance of around 280 km from Mumbai via Vapi on the Udhana- Mumbai highway. From Surat one has to take the SH6 and continue driving towards the Udhana Main Road. From there you take the SH140 and drive towards the Western Express Highway which connects to Lal Bahadur Shashtri Road in Mumbai. The journey from Surat to Mumbai takes approximately 5 hours.

There are various facilities on this highway from Surat to Mumbai like petrol pumps, hotels, roadside dhabas and clean washrooms.

You could hire a taxi the price of which for a round trip is from Rs 5000 for budget oriented cars and increases upwards for luxury and premium cars.

Alternately you could travel by bus. There are many private bus operators and these buses come under different categories like Seater, Sleeper, Non-AC, AC, Volvo-Multi Axle AC. The price of a seat ranges from Rs 600 to Rs 1500 depending on the type of the bus. You can even book tickets for these buses online.

Economically train would be the best option to travel from Surat to Mumbai as it is well connected to the national railway system through Western railways. Trains vary from passenger trains that stop at all stations like Ahmedabad- Bombay Central passenger(59442),Flying Ranee (12922) to super fast express trains like Karnavati Express (12934) ,Shatabdi Express(12010), Rajdhani(12954) to name a few. Train fares start from approximately Rs 90 for a sleeper ticket to Rs 550 in a Rajdhani and the journey takes approximately 4 hours. It is the best option if travelling with family.

If affordable, one can also travel by air between both these cities. The journey time is 45 minutes and the airfare starts from Rs 2500 for economy class and increases upwards for other classes. You can easily book tickets from websites available on the internet.
