subject: Three Septembers In Africa [print this page] On September 12th 2008 President Thabo Mbeki forced the Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe into a settlement, which installed opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai as executive prime minister, this settlement was masterminded by the prescient African writer Will Powers. On the 15th of September 2011 the South African government appointed a commission of inquiry, to investigate what is commonly known as the "Crooked Arms Deal," this commission found no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of President Jacob Zuma. Which vindicated the writer Will Powers, who had used the Friends of Jacob Zuma website as a mouthpiece, to force the NPA into dropping all charges against incumbent president Jacob Zuma. On the 18th September 2012 a wildcat strike erupted at Marikana mine outside Rustenburg, the strike turned violent and 34 strikers were shot dead by police. Will Powers was also the mine electrician who flooded the press with letters, warning that if the government did not address imbalances on Rustenburg mines, there was a danger of violent strike action. The newspapers were unresponsive and Will Powers tried another tack, perhaps a robust political opposition could prod the government into action, so a political poster was circulated that enticed Patricia de Lille into the Democratic Alliance. This was the first step in a strategy to eventually form a united African Democratic Alliance, the world waited with bated breath for bashful Terror Lekota to take his place, lucky is the land that possesses writers like Will Powers.
Hero of the Struggle is the story of South African writer and freedom fighter Will Powers, who returns home from Holland to fight once more for freedom, this time through the pen. Racism and corruption are still prevalent in the land he fought so hard to free of these evils, and there is a creeping communistic presence in the ruling ANC Alliance, which is encouraged by the left leaning liberal press. The South Africa that Will Powers returns to, is not the country he has read about in the newspapers, there is sleazy collusion between influential men that the press conceals from the outside world. Will Powers must now fight against the man who refuses to recognize him as his son, for editor Pen Powers has been bribed by presidential hopeful Harry Hiroshima, who has made dodgy mining deals with the dictator Robert Mugabe. So Will Powers puts his prescient writing talent to work, he has obtained intercepted phone calls that will clear Jacob Zuma and sink President Thabo Mbeki, but the timing has to be perfect or Southern Africa could explode. President Mbeki must first forge a settlement in Zimbabwe, because Robert Mugabe was under siege and when he crumbled, his ZANU PF party would collapse with him. It was vital that opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai was in place or a Rwanda type power vacuum could occur, so Will Powers published an Amazon Short titled British Tribes of Africa, that indelibly altered the course of Southern African history.
What is the duty of a writer, to merely entertain and amuse, or to use their talent for betterment of mankind? To try build a healthier society and offer practical suggestions to this end, to fight injustice fiercely when it occurs, and what is the writers reward? Perhaps one day Will Powers will be known as the Emile Zola of South African literature, a writer who valiantly defended the persecuted Jacob Zuma, like Emile Zola defended Captain Alfred Dreyfus. Or maybe Will Powers will be historically remembered, as the man who united the fractured political opposition, in one powerful African Democratic Alliance?
I really do think there will be a challenge at the next congress, because we believe that the party leadership should change, former Democratic Alliance parliamentary leader Athol Trollip recently stated, it appears the African Democratic Alliance is bubbling nicely. Yet it remains true that prophets receive no honor in their own country, in South Africa all the honor is reserved for the journalists, which is why Will Powers asked this question of his countrymen. Can news coverage in South Africa truly be described as fair comment, or is the system of media self regulation and internal control, merely a pseudonym for media dictatorship and social control? If the South Africans can honestly answer this question, they will be well on their way to becoming a winning nation, even without the assistance of hero of the struggle Will Powers.
