subject: 60 Minute Makeover Everybody Wins! [print this page]

What I find particularly annoying about most DIY programmes is that they seldom state what products they use and where they received them. Dont get me wrong I love DIY programmes. You could say Im an addict just take a look at my Sky+ planner and youll see what I mean. But nothing boils my blood more than scanning through the ending credits, only to find no mention of the source of all their furniture.

This is why I particularly enjoy the ITV programme 60 Minute Makeover. Its main principle being that all the furniture and accessories used on the show are provided by everyday furniture companies, who in turn receive some publicity on national television. I think its a great idea both parties benefit from this initiative, and viewers like myself are able to find out exactly where these lovely bits of furniture come from!

To put an example to this, in a recent episode the designers used some beautiful modern table lamps, ones with a mirrored obelisk design and polished chrome base. I fell in love with these rather eloquent accessories and was ecstatic to find out where I could get my hands on one. It seemed Dorset based online shop House of Lights were the suppliers, and thanks to the information provided on the programme I was able to find their website and purchase one myself. It couldnt have been easier!

In another episode the lucky homeowners were being treated to a rather extravagant and stunning acrylic chandelier, accompanied by some very eye-catching ceiling lights. I later found out thanks to the information provided that these were Lexington chrome ceiling lights, provided again by the House of Lights. I had no interest making any more purchases (particularly with a chandelier), but as one of many self-confessed home improvement junkies I just had to have another peek.

Unfortunately for me the current series has now come to an end. Re-runs arent an option as I mentioned previously, I have them all recorded on Sky+. Luckily the next series should be on TV by the end of the year. If you happen to be a household supplier, whether it is sofas, lighting or both, Id recommend looking into offering some free products to 60 Minute Makeover. It could work wonders for sales. After all, there are many people like me who live for these kinds of programmes, eager to find out where we can get our hands on what we can see.
