subject: Consider The Da Vinci Surgery For The Head And Neck [print this page]

Surgeries on the head and neck can be seriousSurgeries on the head and neck can be serious. A cancer such as that of the throat is one that can be treated non-surgically, but at some point it might become necessary for a patient to have a procedure. These procedures normally would be quite invasive, and the patient would still possibly need chemo. With the new robotic programs such as da Vinci surgery, a patient can have many more advantages while still having a human surgeon in control.

Throat cancer is a general term for cancer in the tongue, larynx, throat, pharynx, and tonsils. When traditional surgeries are done in these areas there is the possibility that the patient would need a tracheotomy. This is not a good thing to have to experience, and they take quite a bit of care. With the use of da Vinci surgery, it might not be necessary for the patient to need this invasive treatment.

Other positive traits of da Vinci surgery for the head and neck are that the patient should recover more quickly. There is also the possibility that they will be able to swallow normally and speak normally sooner. Because of the small incisions, there will be less scarring that is visible. There should be much less blood lost as well. Neither should the patient have to stay in the hospital as long as with traditional surgeries. If the procedure was to treat cancer, there is better control of the cancer using this method, and as mentioned above, less likelihood of needing chemo after the procedure.

The positives of using the da Vinci surgery robot are so extensive it makes you wonder why anyone would use anything else. Some people may not be a good candidate for this surgical process, so it is important to talk to the doctor in charge of your care about the possibility. As with anything, the results for you may not be as positive as the norm because every case is different. On average however, results should be similar to what are mentioned above.

Perhaps you have been fearful to have the surgery that could take away your cancer or other ailment. If you find that you are a good candidate for this procedure, you should put it off no longer. The possibility of being cancer-free could be around the corner. In your mind, you might feel like you are taking a chance with new technology. Waiting however, may be taking an even bigger chance with your life.
