subject: Hydronic Heating -- Pros And Cons [print this page]

Almost every house will need a heating systemAlmost every house will need a heating system. There are many ways that you might choose to heat your house, for example, a central heating system. This is one of the more popular methods along with a boiler. Radiators and solar energy are popular as well, but hydronic heating is gaining more ground. These heating systems have plenty of benefits, even though there are a few downsides to be aware of.

What is Hydronic Heating?

This is obviously the first question that most people will ask. Hydronic heating is a type of in-floor heating that comes in two different forms. The first form, obviously, is meant for hardwood floors. This is intended to provide radiant heat through the floor, and in the process, heat will fill the entire room. The empty space in your home will be affected along with the furniture. In this way, radiant heat is much more efficient than any other types of heating systems you might employ in your home.

Another form of radiant heating can be used in laminate flooring. Both of these are efficient, and they both permanent.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Unlike some of the more conventional heating systems, hydronic heating is capable of heating an entire room at once. Your heating bill will also be reduced considerably. Lastly, there is a space saving advantage. The hydronic heating systems, unlike boilers, will heat the home without taking up much floor space. This is one reason that many people prefer it.

Cons

There are a few downsides to having hydronic heating systems. For example, you will find that hydronic systems are difficult to install. They are also a bit expensive. It is up to you to decide whether or not they are worth it.

The decision is yours in the end, but there are many more pros than cons. Choosing the right pipes and learning to maintain your system will be very helpful. While some pipes are great in concrete, others will need the open air.

If you are ready to move toward the next generation in heating systems, you would do well to have a look at hydronics. They are expensive, as you know, but in the end it is a very small price to pay. You will finally be free of that central heating system and the floor will be warm for you all the time, day or night. The biggest question now is what you're waiting for! Take a look at your house, and figure out what manner of heating systems you will need, then give it the upgrade it deserves. This is the upgrade YOU deserve.
