subject: Plastic Surgeons Want Questions From You [print this page]

Plastic surgeons are professionals who, though it may not seem like they have a lot of time, want to make their patient's happy. In order to do that, they know the importance of getting information from the patient and really getting an idea of what his or her needs are. Most doctors are happy to sit down with you and answer every one of your questions. Some of them expect you to ask them, whereas others are more interested in guiding you through the process one step at a time and asking you about questions during the process. What are you asking?

Did You Ask About the Outcome?

One of the biggest things to discuss with plastic surgeons is the outcome of the procedure. There is no way that any doctor can promise you to fix the problem without any risks or worries the first time. There are situations where the outcome will not be perfect. Though doctors take every step they can to make sure this is not the case, you should talk to your doctor about realistic outcomes first and foremost. You do not want to go into this procedure without that information.

Did You Ask About Your Options?

Many people do not realize they do have options in many procedures. For example, you have options in size, shape, textures and positioning of breast implants, if that is the type of procedure you are having. Your doctor may have more than one type of surgery he or she can perform. You may want to know what he or she is doing and why. Discuss all of your options at length with the doctor so that you can make a decision that fits with your needs.

Did You Talk About Recovery?

Though you may be worried about the actual procedure, you should also discuss the recovery process with your doctor. This is the process of overcoming the condition, healing and getting back to your life. How long will it take? What amount of pain and discomfort will you be in during this process? You should know exactly what to expect going forward so that you can make the right decisions for yourself based on this information.

Doctors are happy to answer your questions. In fact, plastic surgeons may even want you to ask more about the procedure than other patients ask. They are often happy to tell you exactly what they will do, how they will do it and why. All you have to do to find out what the surgeon's plans are is to ask. Talk about your options and uncover what you did not know about this process.
