subject: Same Perfume, Different Scents? [print this page] Why does perfume smell different on different people? Same Perfume. Different Scents?
Have you and your best friend ever gone to the same store at the same time and gotten two bottles of the same exact perfume or cologne? But then after both of you go home and start using it for a while, you realize that though you have the same perfume on, you both smell different? So then you start to use more but still nothing changes, you both smell different! one like the original scent and the other completely different? So you blame the company for giving you the defective bottle. That my friend is wrong!
It has been proven that perfumes and colognes smell different on different people this is because, when your sweat and excrete other body excretions the notes in the perfume mix with your sweat and create a completely different smell. This can go both ways, either the scent is made better and even increases the intensity of the fragrance, or increasing the new ODOR that comes from you.
So you want to be sure that you dont create an odor the next time you buy a new perfume or cologne just because you friend is buying it. I am pretty sure that you want to look and smell good around people, just the way you should.
When you wear perfume and this process happens, and it happens to everybody believe me. There are many things that come into account when trying to find the reason for this mixture of sweat and perfume, some of the many are: first is your gender, men and women have different bodies physically so of course there perspiration is also different as well as the rate at which they perspire. Next we come to know, is that the ethnicity of a person depends as well. Hence your race which is something which I guess works like the gender issue.
Then we now come to your diet. When we talk about this, I remember my 10th grade bio-teacher. He told us back then that if it wasnt for all of these deodorants, colognes and perfumes that we wear, everybody in this class would smell like beef. I asked him, why?, he said because we eat beef. So I ask how do you know? He says I read it in this magazine. Holds it up sorry cant remember which magazine it was, most likely a science one. I told him I would not because I am a Vegetarian, so then he goes maybe just you wouldnt, but the rest of us would. This is something that was known a long time ago. So what you eat does make you smell like what you eat this, doesnt mean that you will smell like todays lunch at dinner. It is an odor that has been passed on after consuming the animal for a long period of time.
Along with eating comes our next factor that comes into play and that is the medications that one takes on a daily bases. There are chemicals that smell funny in there already, which affect the way we smell. These chemicals have their own distinctive smell from the beginning and now you add more different smelling chemicals and oils on to your body and make a smelly cocktail out of yourself. The next but not the only and last thing that affects the way you smell is you skin, If your skin is oily or dry and how old your skin is as well this refers to the age of the individual. It has been said that the scent of a perfume lasts longer on people that have oily skin compared to people that have dry skin. It is due to the perfume evaporating from skin very quickly, oil on the skin keeps it locked it, some experts suggest that baby oil be applied before you spray yourself with your favorite perfume.
How do you know which perfume is best for you?
Many say, (mostly your closets friends or you yourself) that to see if a perfume is going to smell good on you, you spray some on your wrists and rub them together. This is the most common mistake that many people do. When you rub your wrists together this causes your skin to warm up and because the perfume fragrance is in an alcohol based solution, the alcohol heats up and evaporates at twice its normal rate, hence you think that the perfume has no scent, or is not the one you are looking for, but the best way to see whether a perfume works on you is to spray it on you, or your wrists and let it dry and to smell your writs after some time(as long as you want it to last) if it lasts for those few hours then it works and you should get it otherwise not.
For next time we shall discuss more secrets about perfumes that one did not know.
