subject: Understanding Student [print this page] Todays students have become very sensitive and demanding, on the other hand, understanding them is a challenge, as every child comes from a different family environment, and needs to be managed keeping this in mind.
Psychologists have devised and studied behaviors around the world and have made an attempt to understand those behaviors, by classifying them into different types, under various parameters. The one that is simple to understand is the classification of behaviors, into four different types.
We will make an attempt to understand the behaviors mentioned below;
Driver, Analytical, Amiable and Expressive
The Driver behavior is seen in around 15% of the human population in India let me further elaborate on this type. These type of people are disciplined in life, they like to achieve Great Goals in Life, and do not need to have a complete understanding of things, they are usually aware. They are precise communicators; they will speak to the point and make sure that people agree to it. They are usually serious looking people; we see these types of people in High Places and are presumed to be power thirsty.
They come across as balanced people, are very patient in their approach and ask few questions, they limit their words in a communication and do not need to be explained in detail.
These type of Students (People also) do not need to be explained in detail, information to the point is enough. Once they have clarity in their objective they will have a focused approach and attain their goal.
Scolding Students like these or over communicating with them will not get any results, on the other hand, might make them loose interest in the topic.
If you observe these type of people, they will have prominent chins with serious looking eyes, and the head is held at a balanced level.
The Analytical behavior is seen in around 20 % of People in India, most of the children in their early age have these behaviors, however due to family communication preferences or due to families not responding to these type of people/ Children leads them to become subdued and introverts.
Let me further try to clarify, every child has a tendency to ask questions and are inquisitive in nature, this is so because the child is new to the world and has a clean BOARD in his mind, he is making an attempt to learn new things and understand why things are the way they are. We as adults many a times think from our perspective and respond lukewarmly to them and many a times, snub these questions also. This is the analytical nature of every human being.
Every child needs to have an analytical mind during his student life; this varies depending on the response he gets from his family, his teachers and the society he keeps.
Let us understand this behavior a little more, these type of people are prone to asking questions and solicit proof for everything, they are detail oriented, will be studious types and most of them end up wearing glasses, because of the effort they put into boring into books, over straining their eyes.
In class if they are supported they will be the students who ask most of the questions and get the highest marks, if they are not encouraged, they will keep silent. If they do not know the answer they will always hesitate to answer, and are many a time misinterpreted by teachers as non-responsive, they do not respond as they might not have understood the teacher or the subject.
These type of students need to be encouraged to ask questions and clarify their doubts, they will need more time as they will need to understand in detail and go into depth of a subject.
These Students also have prominent chins, however their chins will be lower and they do not look straight. They seem many a time lost in thought, and in their own world. Most of these students will have slouched shoulders.
Amiable
Amiable students are the emotional students of the class, very sensitive and touchy, these are students you can trust, will always try to stay out of Conflicts and make an attempt to sort out any fights that they see.
The Amiable always look forward to support and friendship with people, they will never refuse any demand from a fellow student, if it is in their control. Many a time they are misused by so called friends, who borrow money from them and never return, the amiable types are afraid to request back the loan, fearing loss of Friendship.
They look forward for a lot of Petting from the teachers, if the teacher ignores these type of students they go into a shell and do not fear well in their studies.
They come across as meek people, will cry at the drop of a pin. These type of students require motivational support from Parents and Teachers both, just You can do it, we are with you.. will help.
These type of students have soft eyes, with head most of the time held low, and a drop of Chin below the normal. 20% of Students in India are like this, the majority of this trait lies with the Female population.
Expressive
The show offs of the class! These are students who seem to know everything and practically nothing completely. The shortcut people, who will always like to be the center of attraction in the class or outside. These people reach success very fast and many a times are very good at convincing teachers that they are the best. They will please the Teachers any way they can, they are very good story tellers, always focused on what they will do in the future.
These types of people never fail in life, as they are very charming and usually achieve success very fast, 45 % of Population of students is like this in India.
Many a times they are mistaken to be Drivers, as this personality is pushy in Nature
