subject: Put Time And Effort Into Caring For Your Horse [print this page]

For those who are lucky enough to own a horse, the animal must become a huge part of their life and have to be willing to make sacrifices to care for it. Those who are dedicated to horse riding are often very passionate about the sport and want to be outdoors anyway, spending as much time as possible with their horse. Like any animal they need to be looked after, but a lot of extra time and care has to be put into these animals compared to cats, dogs and other animals which live within homes.

You need to have quite a bit of money to own a horse and buy all the supplies, housing and equestrian clothing for yourself. It is very costly owning them but if you have the cash to spare, enough space to hold them or a farm close by that will, then it will be rewarding if you love to go off into the sunset on horseback! Just like humans, horses and ponies have different personalities and it can be quite tough choosing the right one to suit you. Do not rush into it as it is a big decision, and ask if you are able to have a little ride of it to see if you feel it is going to be right for you. They differ in sizes so some may be too tall for you to sit comfortably on. You also need to have a suitable amount of space for the horse to be happy in; it is no good having a large stallion in a stable fit for a little pony.

Once you have made the choice it is a good time to buy all the supplies you think you will require right away. Certain things can wait until after the horse is properly settled but you should buy food, supplements, brushes and other obvious items in advance. You can often get a good deal buying online than in shops dedicated to horses too so it is best to do your research to save on money. You are responsible for your own horse so daily trips need to be made to make sure it has everything it needs to eat, drink and also take it out often for a ride so it gets a good amount of exercise. This is a long term commitment and should be taken very seriously, even during cold weather. The rewarding feeling you get back and the love from the animal is worth all of the efforts.
