subject: More Number Of Cardiac Patients Require Cardiac Surgery [print this page]

The heart is one of the few most important organs in our body. It is responsible for blood circulation in our body. It receives the polluted blood from the body and then purifies the blood with Oxygen. After this, it sends the blood to all the organs of the body. It is a cyclic order. Whenever it is hampered, our body experiences various cardiovascular problems. If this problem becomes fatal, the cardiac surgery is required.

The first heart surgery was performed by a surgeon of Norway, Axel Cappelen, on the September 4, 1895, in Christiania, now known as Oslo. But the patient died after two or three days. The first successful heart surgery was performed by Dr Ludwig Rehn of Frankfurt, Germany. The patient was saved and was free of complication. But surgery at that time used to bring panic among people. Excessive pain was associated with it. But today the form of surgery has changed drastically. The technology and many advanced techniques that are being used today, are much effective.

The various forms of cardiac surgery are open heart surgery, modern beating-heart surgery, minimally invasive surgery, pediatric cardiovascular surgery. In the open heart surgery heart is opened and the surgery is performed in a bloodless environment. For the purpose the blood is drained out of the heart. The technology was discovered by Dr Wilfred G. Bigelow of the University of Toronto. It is also known as Cardiopulmonary Bypass surgery. From 1990 onwards, off pump bypass surgery has begun. It is different from the open heart surgery. In this surgery, the heart beating is continued during surgery. Only at some areas it is stabilized to connect the conduit vessel which bypasses the blockage. The minimally invasive surgery is a robot assisted cardiac surgery. In the process, the cardiac surgeon controls the machine which performs the operation. The pediatric cardiovascular surgery is the surgery of the heart of children. Mr. Russell M Nelson performed it successfully for the first time at the Salt Lake General Hospital in March, 1956.

The advanced cardiac surgery has some really good advantages, such as, smaller incision, smaller scar, less bleeding, less pain, reduced recovery time. There is a cardiac surgery physiotherapy protocol. The therapist follows this protocol. According to protocol, at first a meeting with the cardiac patient is arranged. That time the patient is instructed to do some breathing exercises, like huffing, puffing, deep breathing, coughing. Cardiovascular exercises are essential in all types of heart care treatment. Proper breathing exercises are advisable to the patients. It involves breathing deeply and holding it for some time, say twenty or more seconds, and then releasing the air slowly. It is performed to keep chest infections at bay.

Cardiac surgery in Indonesia has flourished highly. Today, pediatric cardiac surgery, congenital heart disease treatment etc. are performed successfully in Indonesia. The Jayadeva Institute of Indonesia has all the advanced technologies to perform cardiac surgery. Moreover, cardiac surgery in Singapore has set a new standard of heart care. Dr Lim Ing Haan of Singapore has established an advanced clinic for cardiac surgery.
