subject: What To Expect When You Employ Maids From A Service [print this page]

If you are like most moms, employing a team of maids has crossed your mind. You look at the unending pile of chores, and you cringe. Thankfully, your kids will grow up, and you can put them to work helping with those chores. In the meantime, you should enjoy them. Maybe you should consider hiring a maid to help you stay on top of maintaining a hectic household. That way, you can enjoy your children before they grow up too quickly. So what does a maid do? This won't be like the cleaning lady on your favorite sitcoms.

The maid probably won't hang around all day making quirky comments while cooking and cleaning. A service will come once a week, twice a week, or once every two weeks. You will be billed accordingly. The maids will come in pairs or groups of three people, and they will tackle the chores quickly and efficiently while you are at work or possibly tending to your children. They will begin cleaning a room from left to right and then top to bottom.

In your kitchen, you can expect them to wipe down your stove, refrigerator, and microwave. They will also clean the inside of your microwave. Some will wash whatever dishes are waiting in the sink. They will vacuum and wash the floors, wash countertops, and clean the burner pans on your stove. They will wipe down your tables and chairs. You can even expect these maids to tackle all the parts of a messy bathroom. They will take out the trash, wash down all surfaces, and wax the floors. In your bedrooms, you can expect your beds made, carpets vacuumed, and all the dusting completed. There will not be a cobweb in sight.

Before you hire a service, you should inquire with them to see if the particular tasks you want completed are part of their cleaning routine. You will want to discuss fees and find out if they insure their maids. Most companies also perform background checks on their workers. You will want to be sure they have done that. If you go with hiring a maid on your own, you will want to consider performing a background check of your own. You may also consider offering the job on a trial basis at the beginning. Most companies require that you receive a deep cleaning on the initial visit, and you will be billed at a higher rate when this occurs.
