subject: Rc Cars: The Coolest Gift For Christmas [print this page]

If you're looking for a great gift to give this Christmas, then put RC cars and trucks at the top of your list. There are also other remote controlled toys gaining in popularity - helicopters and airplanes - but cars and trucks still catch the eye of many enthusiasts.

There is a wide range of remote controlled cars to choose from. Kids generally start out with the less expensive cars; you know the ones that they can play with in the driveway. The frequency range is not as far as the more expensive models, but for having fun and learning how to maneuver the controls, especially for beginners, these starter RC cars are perfect.

Competitive Racing: Once your youngster gets a taste of RC fun, the chances are good that they will want to jump to the next level - racing. These cars can cost upwards of $200.00 and that doesn't include a controller and accessories. However, this is a small price to pay when you see how the sport stimulates your kids "competitive juices," and teaches them how to assemble and prep their RC car for racing. It's also an experience for the parents too.

RC trucks are more popular if your kids like to play in sand and dirt. Trucks have more ground clearance and in general are designed to handle rough terrain. This doesn't mean they can't be used in the street, or for that matter used in competition, but your kids will have a lot more fun with RC trucks if the rough going is to their liking.

Kids are fascinated with wireless gadgets, and to be able to control a car or truck without wires is just the coolest thing for kids. Believe it or not, there was a day in the distant past where remote controlled cars we not wireless. A very simple push button controller, with an eight foot wire, was the start of remote controlled cars...thank goodness for technology.

Manual Dexterity: Besides being a fun toy, HobbyTrons RC cars provide kids with a learning experience. The hand-eye coordination needed to master your new radio controlled device is quite remarkable. Many adults find this fact to be true when they try their hand at driving an RC car for the first time, it's quite funny to watch.

When shopping for an RC vehicle you'll find a wide range of models and sizes to choose from. Like most toys the recommended age range will be marked on the box. Most starter RC vehicles are made of heavy duty plastic, so it can take a lot of abuse before it falls apart. And besides, chances are by the time this happens your kids will be ready for bigger and better things.

Almost all RC cars and RC trucks from HobbyTron come with rechargeable power units. You will still find some lower end units that use batteries, but even more and more of these units are using rechargeable systems.

As we close in on Christmas, shop early so you'll have a better selection of cars and trucks to choose from. For most kids the starter units are perfect for fun, but don't be surprised if your kids, and even you, get the RC bug - it happens all the time.
