Exploring the environmental and social impacts of different fabrics and fibers. You'll have the opportunity to feel fabrics and gain a first-hand understanding of the physical differences between fibers and how they can be integrated into contemporary design.
Session II: 11.30 - 1.00pm ETHICAL FASHION
An introduction to the environmental and social factors currently at the forefront of the fashion design industry. A guide on how to source sustainably and understand supply chains, including a brief overview of the notoriously complex area of standards and certifications.
Session III: 2.00pm - 3.30pm ECO KNITWEAR
Looking at the knit life-cycle: from responsible materials to methods of knitting, with supporting samples and dye substances, to the drying phase, to a knitted fabric's end use. A look into technical details, such as knit structures and fibre contents and learn how to hand knit yourself!
With a plethora of ethical, printed fabric samples and natural dyes to get your hands on, this is an opportunity to learn about different printing methods, equipment used, costs and techniques. A look at the environmental and social impacts of a print life-cycle, from responsible materials, to methods of printing and dyeing, to drying, to end use.
