CNC-Turning is the computerized cutting process wherein the cutting tool is being withhold at a cylindrical surface and as the cylindrical surface rotates the cutting progresses. It operates through the use of computerized G-codes converted into commands. The cutting movement is either done by rotating in a straight path through the internal structures creating a hole or rotating while being withhold by a chuck creating a carve. CNC facilitates steady and accurate cutting.

Operating conditions should be taken into consideration during usage of CNC-Turning machineries. Correct operating conditions are observed to achieve the maximum capability of the machine. Here are some guidelines in the proper operating conditions of the CNC-turning machines:

1. Check the equipment before using. This is to know if the machine is working in perfect conditions.

2. Choose a proper withholder. Withholder options are either chucks, collet and between centers. Chucks are used for gripping cylindrical work pieces. Collets are used for work pieces machined to a given diameter. Tools held between centers are used for non-cylindrical work pieces. Tool holders should be stable and durable enough to withstand the pressure when the cylindrical surface hit the cutting tool during turning.

3. Observe proper cutting speed and depth cut. The cutting speed is essential since cutting tool should run at certain and specific speed to ensure precise cutting. Rough cutting requires low speed rate while Finishing cutting requires high speed rate for finer cuts.

4. Select the exact turning tool holder convoyed by insert shape geometry and chip breaker. It may result to longer life of turning machineries and added productivity.

5. Check the insert strength since it plays an important role in tool holder geometry. Be aware of the uses of the insert geometry figures. Triangle inserts are for wide application range while Diamond inserts are for profile turning operations. Square inserts are for lead angle tools. Always remember the basic rule on inserting strength; if the included angle in the insert corner is large, the insert strength should be large too.

6. The success of the machine depends on the set-up of the cutting tool and work piece. The work piece should not be too rigid or floppy. Take an appropriate time in setting the equipment. Rush set-up have a lot of kinks and casualties.

7. Balance should also be taken into consideration. Unbalanced distribution of weight causes mistakes and damage on the tool which might cause problems on the surface finishing of the project.

8. Be sure that the spindle is dirt-free. Dirt on the spindle may cause running problems to the equipment.

9. Choose the right tool holder. Most of standard tool holder cut through the centerline. If cutting through centerline is not generated, an insert fracture will occur. This, in turn, will result in less cutting services.

10. The cutting forces should not be interrupted. Interrupted cuts may result in problems in drilling large diameter work pieces. User should utilize the lead angle to contact the tool on its stronger side of the part.
