subject: Using Steel Fences For Security Barriers [print this page]

There are a lot of businesses that have to secure their perimeters. Sometimes security is needed because the business owner wants to keep something on the property like a guard dog, and sometimes the security barriers are required to keep something off of the property, like vandals.

Security barriers sound extreme when you say the words, but the truth is that these items are just reinforce fencing products that prove to be more difficult for a thief to get past. Wooden barriers are easily broken, can be easily cut with a chain saw, they can be set on fire and destroyed, and over time the weather will cause these items to rot. People try to extend the life of wooden fences by painting them and thus sealing out moisture, but in all honesty painting these items is merely applying a temporary fix.

Security barriers made of steel materials do not need to be painted in order to withstand the weather or the elements. They are sturdy and meant to be out in the rain, sun, and wind. The materials that form these items cannot be destroyed by a simple fire. You would need a massive amount of heat to destroy steel security barriers with fire.

These items cannot be cut with a chainsaw and easily entered. If you want to cut these items you are going to have to bring along some tools like a cutting torch and acetylene tank. You are more than likely not going to be able to get through the metal in a hurry, so be prepared to be working at the cutting of it for quite some time.

Most people want these privacy fences to be at least six feet in height and sometimes they want them to be even higher than six feet. Schools and institutions generally like their security fencing to be six feet in height. Most of the time, when the children are outdoors at a school, there is an adult watching them, and the six foot fencing will prevent children from leaving the property and it will create a boundary line that the people on the outside of it recognize and respect.

There are some businesses that require the fencing around their property to be taller than six foot. A six foot fence is rather easily scaled by the average human and for those businesses that might have dangerous devices or chemical materials they need to protect people from. In order to prevent a vandal or a thief from entering the property, and possibly being injured while they are there, these businesses install security fencing that is taller than the normal six foot panels.

Sometimes, a business that is in a neighborhood that has a higher than average crime rate will keep guard dogs inside their property fences. The dogs are generally large breeds like the German Sheppard, the Rottweiler, or the Doberman pinscher. The owners of the animals will want to make certain that they are not able to reach anyone outside of their fenced area. These owners will build strong partitions to guarantee this.

Steel fencing makes excellent security barriers around commercial properties. security barriers need to be taller than average, and stronger than average.
