subject: The Difference In Security Fences And Residential Fences [print this page]

There is a large difference in the security fences that commercial property owners construct and the residential fences that homeowners build around their property. The main differences will be in the materials used to build the items and the height of the items. There are some design differences, but these are not as great as the other two.

Residential fences that are placed around the yard of a home may be constructed of wooden boards, cyclone fencing materials, barbed wire, plastic panels, and even rocks or stones. Security fences are generally built of steel or iron materials so they will be stronger and less likely to be entered.

Wooden fences are made to be very cute around the perimeter of a yard. They are sometimes built six foot high and with no spacing between the boards. When they are constructed in this manner they are meant to give the family some privacy when they are in their yard. Even though these privacy fences are harder for people to climb over than the ordinary board panel is, they are really not designed to protect the property from unwanted intrusions. They are suggestions of boundary limits, but when someone wants to get past them it is not really difficult for them to do so.

Security fences are built at a height of six feet or greater so that they stop people from being able to come onto the property without permission. The materials that are used to make these items are stronger than wood and they are less likely to allow someone to get past them. These materials can be assembled in such a manner as to allow the area to be secluded from the eyes of people on the other side of them.

Residential areas often have the white picket panels placed around the yards for their homes. When these homeowners also have pastures they will frequently use barbed wire to keep their animals in. Barbed wire does not actually have a lot of strength and would not be a good choice of materials to stop someone from entering the premises, but it makes a good reminder to the livestock of where their boundaries are. A cow or a horse can easily break through the material, but they generally do not try to break out if they are well fed and tended to.

There are some security fences that are built with barbed wire over them to discourage people from climbing the sections and gaining access to the property. These are more frequently seen in areas where the divider is meant to stop someone from escaping rather than stop someone from entering, although some of the older homes had sharp prongs constructed into their panels to prevent people from being able to climb into them. You will also see some of these types of prongs built on the privacy barriers of people who are very wealthy or influential, like the senators, the governors, and other people in power.

Security fences are meant to keep something inside an area, or to keep something out of an area. Security fences are not generally built from the same materials as residential fences are.
