Decide whether you would want to live alone or you would prefer to share a room with someone. Sharing is the right choice for people with tight monthly budgets because in this way the rent gets reduced by half.

Do some research about the new city and find out the area where your office/college is- what part of the city is it in and what are the areas that fall in its vicinity. After this research you will have a clear knowledge of the areas can you search for a paying guest accommodation. Look for a room located in an area which is close to your college or is near bus, train or metro stations. Choose the location carefully the more central it is, the better it will be for you- when you can have easy access to entertainment avenues, dining places or medical services.

The PG room itself has to be chosen really carefully- after all you dont want to stuck in a room where the fan barely works or the window opens above a stinky drain or there is never any water in the bathroom. So when you check out a prospective PG room- do a thorough check of the amenities:

1.Is the bed big enough and mattresses comfortable?

2.What are the other furnishings provided? Are they sufficient for both you and your room partner?

3.Does the wardrobe have enough space for your clothes and books and other stuff?

4.What about the power situation? Do they have power backup?

5.Is the bathroom attached? Is it of a decent size? Is water available 24x7 (direct supply or stored water)?

6.Is every electrical appliance provided in perfect working condition?

These issues sorted, you must ask landlord how he plans to provide drinking water, tea/coffee and meals. The next thing to ask is the rules they expect you to follow. Can you bring friends over? Are pets allowed in the room over weekends? Can you smoke/drink?

Lastly discuss the rent amount, how will you pay and the deposit they require. Also ask the landlord how the maintenance and upkeep of the room will be taken up. We are sure that by following these tips, you can surely find the best PG in south Delhi or in any other city.
