subject: Breast Reduction For Men And Women [print this page]

Breast reduction is usually done on both men and women. The reason behind this is that it is not only women who may have enlarged bosoms but also men. Some men also have larger than normal chests that can bother them.

Reasons for Surgery

The reasons why some women want to have their bosoms reduced is mainly due to the discomfort that comes with overly developed chests. These become heavier than normal and can be bothersome for most women. The form of bother varies depending on how enlarged they are. Some women are bothered with uncomfortable pain in their backs, shoulders and necks as they go around doing their daily chores. Some ladies experience difficulty in dealing with their underwear and clothes if their bosom sizes are too large to be carried by most stores. This means they have to look for specific stores that carry the sizes and designs that they prefer. Another problem with clothing and undergarments is buying those that come in sets. Most sets have the same size for both top and bottom but some women might have smaller bottoms compared to their bigger chest sizes. Most women with overly developed chest sizes also feel that they are stared at or ogled by the opposite sex. They feel that some boys might be attracted to them because of this fact and they cannot be comfortable with this idea.

For men, breast reduction is an option when their chests appear embarrassingly like that of a woman than they like. Some men develop large bosoms as they hit puberty, for some even before that. To make matters more uncomfortable, puberty is the time when both men and women are self-conscious about their developing bodies. This is also the time that this age group spends a lot of time with their peers and those of the opposite gender. Many older boys who might have some problems with the appearance of their chests are loathe to expose their body to their peers, much less the opposite gender. It is about this age, or older, that they consider the breast reduction operation but some surgeons might discourage this early on because they wish to wait for the developing bodies to stop growing before making any major changes and improvements on it. The reason behind this hesitation is because the surgeons are aware that bodies can still grow a few years after they individual may have finished with puberty.

Benefits

The benefits of having breast reduction can be easily seen afterwards. The way that the individual, either male or female, interacts with their peers usually improves after the operation. They usually feel more confident and not so self-conscious anymore. Young men and older teenage boys feel more confident with their bodies and can join activities where the other boys might need to take off their shirts and expose their upper bodies. On the part of many young women with this issue, they also feel less conscious about why some men try to make friends with them.
