subject: How Invisalign Can Give You The Straight Smile You Desire [print this page]

Everybody dreams of the perfect smile with all their teeth in the proper alignment; yet most people are not keen on the idea of wearing braces and/or metallic appliances to improve their look. Invisalign has changed that! Since 1999, Invisalign has effectively improved the smile of millions of patients. Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to slowly straighten your teeth without many of the disadvantages of wearing braces. Talk to your Dorval dentist today about Invisalign if you are unhappy with the alignment of your teeth.

How Invisalign Works

The first thing you need to do if you are considering Invisalign is to have a conversation with your dentist to go over your options and make sure that you are a candidate for Invisalign. If your teeth are severely misaligned, you may still need to get braces to correct your smile. Your dentist will also be able to discuss costs and financing options of Invisalign. Once you and your dentist have decided that Invisalign is the best option for you, he or she will begin by taking X-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth. These will be used to create a digital 3-D image of your teeth. Using special software, your dentist will then be able to map out how your teeth will move throughout your treatment. You will even be able to see what your teeth will look like at the end of the process. Using the same software, he or she will then be able to create your first set of aligners.

When you are at home, you will wear the clear aligners on your teeth for at least 20-22 hours per day, only removing them to eat, brush and floss your teeth. After about two weeks, you will switch to your next set of aligners. Slowly but surely, your teeth will begin to move. About every six weeks, you will have an appointment with your Dorval dentist to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment. When you have finished wearing your last set of aligners, you will simply stop wearing them and the process will be over.

The Benefits Of Invisalign

The most significant benefit of Invisalign is that thanks to Invisalign's clear aligners, no one will be able to tell that you are receiving treatment while you are doing so. This is a huge contrast to your experience wearing braces, where you will have to wear metal brackets and wires on your teeth. In addition, Invisalign aligners are removable. This means that you are able to eat whatever you want without restriction. You are also able to brush and floss your teeth without having to work around braces, making it easier to take care of your personal oral health during your treatment with Invisalign.
