subject: Overview On Kidney Transplant Surgery [print this page]

Kidney is considered to be one of the most important organs of the body. It is very important to take proper care of it. If you are facing any problems then the first most important thing that you must do is consult the doctor.

Do you know exactly when a person undergoes the kidney transplant surgery? It is at the time when both the kidneys of a person fail to function and there is no option left to save the persons life other than the transplant surgery. This surgery is the last resort taken to save the individuals life.

What exactly happens in the kidney transplant surgery?

The unhealthy kidney of the recipient is removed and the healthy kidney of the donor is attached to the abdomen of the recipient. The healthy kidney is then attached to veins and then the veins start supplying blood to the various parts of the body.

From where you get a new healthy kidney?

Kidney donor is the one who donates kidney to the recipient. The donor can be a person of the same family or any other person who is willing to donate the kidney. It is not necessary that the kidney donor has to be a person alive, but a dead persons kidney can also be donated. The kidney of the dead person can be used if he/she had had a wish of donating the kidney after the death.

After you find the kidney, the transplant surgery can not start from the next minute. There are a few tests that need to be carried on to know the compatibility of the recipient and the donor. If these compatibility tests are positive only then the transplant surgery can start. If the reports of this test are negative, then undergoing the surgery is not a good option as it might prove to be problem in the future.

Can the person undergoing transplant surgery live a normal life after it?

Many people have the wrong notion that a person undergoing the transplant surgery can not live a normal life after it as he/she used to. But that is not the case. It definitely takes some time to recover and become normal but that does not mean that the person will not live a life he/she used to.

When the body starts producing urine, it is the time when the body has started functioning normally. Some people just take a few days to come back to the normal state while the others might take some time.
