subject: Basic Halloween Costume Ideas [print this page]

Halloween is a time to get creative and dress up in a costume that you can be proud of. There are people who will spend hundreds of dollars and weeks working on their costumes in order to make them impressive. If you arent one of those people you could realize that you need a costume quickly and that you dont have a bunch of money to spend on one. These simple Halloween costume ideas will help you get the costume you need before you run out of time.

A great costume for simplicities sake is a mime if you are not concerned with putting on a performance for an audience. You need dark clothing, white gloves, a dark beret, and a good makeup kit. With these items you can make a costume in just a few minutes.

Start by putting on your dark clothing. The top shirt will look better if it is striped than it will if it is a solid black color. After you have that on put on your white face makeup. Now add black stars around each of your eyes. To complete the outfit you have to have your white gloves on as well as your hat.

Even easier than the mime costume is a simple self-portrait. The costume is only a couple of basic elements and you can make it in just a couple minutes. Take a picture out of a frame and hang the frame over your head so that you are in the center of it. Not tape paper to your shirt with a signature on it at the bottom corner of the frame so it looks like you were signed by an artist.

You can go all out with this costume if you take the time to wear black and white and to put body makeup on to turn your skin grey giving the picture the appearance of a black and white photo. You can also try to act out famous portraits if you want to get fancy with your costume.

The first costumes arent really original unless you go the extra mile on the portrait. The next costume is more original and you probably havent seen anyone else dressed this way before. You can make yourself into a very impressive, walking, basket of dirty laundry.

Either buy a very cheap basket, or sacrifice an older basket that you have at home already. Cut out the bottom of the basket so that you can fit in it. Now cut two different loops from clothesline and hook them to both sides of the basket to use as shoulder straps. The basket should be suspended so that it is just above your legs and the top ends at your chest. Use a set of clothespins to hook some laundry around the sides of the basket and you are all set.
