In many hospitals, specialists prefer using some specific tools to determine the type of brain injury; it is called Glasgow coma scale (GCS). It is a grading system tool that scales the injury amid 3 and 15, where 3 being the lowest. Brain injury cure is important as it controls all aspects of the body. Acquired brain injury: This is type of brain injury, is caused by the medical conditions like strokes, brain tumors, infections etc. hypoxia (less oxygen flow); anoxia (absence of oxygen) and some degenerative diseases. There are many types in acquired brain injury.
Traumatic brain injury (TBI): This traumatic injury can be graded anything between 11 and 13 through GCS. It is caused due to skull fractures or broken skull bone. This disorder causes the damage to the brain. It does not heal like other injuries. It is caused by the external physical force, which means an acquired injury. It results to the formation of blood clots or hematoma due to the impact of trauma. It is called as intracranial hematoma. It is classified as mild traumatic brain injury.
Concussion: It is also an acquired type of brain injury and graded as 15 through GCS. It results to the short loss of consciousness. It is a mild injury without bleeding, for example a head injury sustained in a football practice. This is a mild type of concussion; in this the patient may recover in 1 to 2 weeks. Where in severe concussion, the brain starts shaking repeatedly as it is the advanced types of concussion.
Mild trauma brain injuries (MTBI): As per the GCS it is graded between 13 and 15. It occurs due to normal vehicle accidents. When an individuals head is banged to any hard object, then there is damage to the brain tissue.
All these are the common types, which are endured by many people due to vehicle accidents and in other situations. These cannot be cured permanently as the condition varies from person to person depending on the types of injury.
