subject: Escaping To The Spa In Spain: The Best Of The Balearics [print this page]

For a relaxing holiday in the sun, the Balearics are the ideal destination. Visitors here are able to combine sunshine and sightseeing with spa days.

There are plenty of spa hotels across Majorca. In the placid Puerto Pollenca, for instance, lies the four star Hotel Illa dOr, a total haven on the north coast, with beautiful views over the water. The spa here is particularly quirky, with treatments designed to harmonise body, mind and spirit from volcanic stone massages to vinotherapy and reflexology. The beauty products used are all derived from Dead Sea minerals, so packed with essential oils and natural extracts which have supreme wellbeing properties and leaving the skin totally smooth and nourished.

Hopping across the Med to Menorca, a similar story is to be found. However, Menorcan hotels tend to be smaller, quieter and slightly more charming than their Majorcan counterparts the coastline remains largely undeveloped, and there are more beaches here than Ibiza and Majorca put together, so the possibilities are huge.

In the south-eastern corner of the island lies Mahon, the capital of the island. Many of the hotels here overlook the beautiful port, with big views over the sea. A great example of a spa hotel here is the aptly named Capri Le Petit Spa a small hotel with a lovely spa that is perfect for couples looking to escape for a long weekend, or weeks holiday in the sunshine. Guests can enjoy the views over town from the pool, set high up, complete with Jacuzzis for chill-out time, while the spa offers a delightful range of treatments.

For something a little more beach focused, the Sagitaro Playa Hotel is set in the popular resort of Cala Blanca, just two hundred metres from the beach, and ideal for combining the pool with a dip in the sea, here and there. The hotel is also home to a fantastic spa, conceived as a unique space for the total relaxation of its guests. The facilities include a complete hydrotherapy spa circuit, alongside massages and facials the perfect place for unwinding after a hard day on the beach in the sunshine.

The Balearic islands make an extremely popular holiday destination for many UK tourists each year. While the high season runs throughout the UK summer, the islands are also enjoyable year round. As such, going out of season can be very beneficial the chances are, the weather will still be good, but you may get much more for your money, with some excellent holiday deals on offer at less popular times. So now the only decision to make is which island to pick, and get packing!
