subject: The Gitgit Waterfall In Bali Island [print this page]

About 10km south of Singaraja Town on the road to Bedugul, or about 70 Km from Denpasar, is one of Balis famous tourist destinations that Bali villas rent guests usually never miss to see, the popular GitGit Waterfall.

Located in the plateau area with the height about 300 meters above sea level, GitGit Waterfall is a large, powerful and spectacular 40 meters of crystal clear water rushing headlong into a seemingly bottomless pool, surrounded by a picturesque lush jungle of tropical trees at the bottom of an impressive gorge, offering fresh air and cool weather in the afternoon.

The tallest waterfall in Bali, GitGit Waterfall tends to tempt visitors with a tantalizingly refreshing swim, with its crystal clear water that never runs dry and rushes continuously into the shallow pool below, looking like white clouds falling down the mountain one after another. This falling water seems to almost completely cover the rock face of the fall, which tends to tempt tourists and the many guests in the villas in Bali to take some long exposure photographs.

There are also some plantations protecting the rain forest around the waterfall, from which wild monkeys getting water from this waterfall are often seen.

About 2 km south of the bigger waterfall, there are terraced waterfalls to be seen. And also appearing from the gaps between the cliffs are fountains and water springs.

To explore the waterfall, you need to walk through the stepped 850-meter concrete path bordered by trees and shrubs from the main car park to the waterfall itself, passing rice fields and countless myriads of colorful handicraft stalls selling mass produced handicrafts. And halfway along the hillsides, you will see coffee and clove trees, making the temperature cool in the afternoons and cold in the mornings and at nights. This road is said to be one of the omissions during the Dutch era where the local residents used it to access other regions.

GitGit Waterfall offers a refreshing walking experience, where one can see and hear birds taking turns to sing. In this quiet area, there is cool air, which tends to gradually get colder as you approach the waterfall.

In the 40-meter high falls itself, you can see the waters roaring down a steep stone cliff into a mist covered pool below, where you can cool off with a swim or rest your tired feet in the refreshing waters of the rushing river below.

If you are searching for the ultimately romantic spot to spread out an open air feast, warungs and other picnic facilities available are at the site, offering spectacular views of the dramatic falls. There is also a restaurant and not far from the waterfall is a place for taking a rest while enjoying the beauty panorama of rice terrace and Buleleng Beach.

But if you plan to succumb to the charms of the falls, please be wary but not of any physical danger. There is a local legend that says that couples who bath together at the lovely pools will eventually separate.
