subject: Amazon Kindle G3: Up Close And Personal Review [print this page]

With the launch of Amazon Kindle G3, online retailers have all the reasons to rejoice. Not only is it better than previous models which had been been manufactured before in this category, but it is well-prepared to face the mainstream masses.

Amazon Kindle G3 dispels all the negative issues people face with earlier Kindles. Such as slow page turns, hard-to-use finger button designs and heavy weight. However that does not mean all previous versions will be extinct as Kindles still has a place in most customers' hearts afterall.

2 Different Versions

Amazon Kindle G3 has 2 different versions.

The Kindle Wi-Fi costs $139 while the Kindle with both Wi-Fi and 3G costs $189.

The previous Kindle 2 cost much higher.

However, please take note that the Kindle G3 is not just a minor update, display improvement or a color refresh as already been in the case of Kindle DX.

From far, it is obvious that there is a lot of work involved in the making of this eBook reader. This might indiciate that the company's hardware strategy to be the key component within the software. Such as the Kindle apps.

Measurements

Amazon Kindle G3 is about 7.5 by 4.8 by 0.34 inches as compared to the 8 by 5.3 by 0.36 inches of the Kindle 2. But if you examine them closer, you will discover that Amazon Kindle G3 became significantly smaller.

In order to obtain this smaller design, the manufacturer needed to cut down on the excessive space around the edges. This is so that the device will be covered by its 6-inch screen.

However, there is still sufficient room around the edges for the fingers to rest comfortably while holding the device.

Light Weight

The design of Amazon Kindle is so much lighter to hold in hand.

Best of all, the user can read 1-2 hours without feeling any pain or stiffness in his hands.

What is even more interesting is that what it does cannot be easily duplicated. Not even by the multi-functional Apple iPad.

Better Design

Its curved back cover - produced from a subtle and rubberized material, also makes it easier to hold.

Due to its more compact design, Amazon had to modify and improvise its keys and buttons.

Now underneath the screen, there are very easy forward and back buttons. Both are identical in shape and size and signaled by arrows instead of words. With this feature, it is now suitable for both left- and right-handed users.

Having said those, Amazon Kindle G3 is truly a masterpiece to behold. Not just in terms of features, benefits and pricing but in terms of the value it gives to users.
