subject: The Skills Necessary To Make It Big In Application Development For Mobile Platforms [print this page]

If you want to make headway and make a success of your attempts in application development for mobile platforms, there are two skills that you should have. Whether you are developing the applications with the intention of selling them directly through your own 'holding's company, or you are seeking a conventional mobile applications development job, these are two types of skills you must have.

Object-oriented programming skills are the first of the two types of essential skills that anyone who wants to make it big in application development for mobile platforms should have. You notice that, for some reason, most of the applications for mobile platforms are coded in a language known as Java. This is, for the most part, an object oriented programming language. You cannot expect to internalize Java and its intricacies unless you have managed to get a full handle and understanding of object oriented programming. But it is not unheard of to find people who gain familiarity of object oriented programming by getting acquainted with Java first.

That, however, is a learning curve that could only be described as extremely steep and a painful learning process. Mobile applications could never be created successfully without mastery of the object oriented programming concepts on your part. Developers of mobile applications are not restricted to Java as a programming language. They also make use of others. But these other languages still fall under the category of object oriented programming languages and thus would require this type of programming skill to be possessed by the developer himself.

Skills in graphic design are also essential if you want to succeed in developing mobile applications. It is not enough that you concentrate on the coding of the mobile applications you are working on. Make sure you also make their front-end interfaces eye-catching and appealing enough. Having very good graphic skills at this point would really come in handy. Even if you aren't a talented graphic design artist, you need to have some sense in this area. If you just have the coding skills in an object oriented programming language, but you don't have graphic design skills, you won't have the ability to come up with complete mobile apps.

Good object-oriented programming skills and good graphic design skills just lay the foundation for successful application development for mobile platforms. More than the basic object oriented programming and graphic design skills, however, there are other skills that developers should have in order to succeed in developing mobile applications. One may, for instance, need marketing skills: so as to figure out ways of getting people to buy the mobile applications that he or she develops. Many developers make use of their market data and info gathering skills and researching skills in order to find out what the market wants or needs. The results of their research would have them developing apps that would not be difficult to market to the buyers at a later date. Admittedly, creating mobile applications does not have these as its core technical skills. The core technical skills needed for the actual development of the mobile applications revolve around the areas of graphic design of the application's interfaces and coding. Incidentally, these two also happen to be the most basic and essential skills that every aspiring mobile application developer must have in order to succeed in this endeavor.
