The capital has a spectacular waterfront, with palm-lined promenades that make strolling leisurely a pleasure. Christopher Columbus first discovered the island and his remains are still on the island. The house occupied by his son, who was a mayor of the city, is now being maintained as a museum. There is also a museum having some displays relating to the history of the nation, with some dating back to the slave trade era.

The island offers a lot more to vacationers. There are some amazing and breathtaking waterfalls in the rural areas that offer with scenic views. A portion of the island has desert-like conditions as well which is a contrast to the rest of the nation. Furthermore, the nation also hosts a Summer Festival, which attracts vacationers from all over the world. Cheap tickets to Dominican Republic may be difficult to get during this period.
