subject: Classroom And Business Technology [print this page]

Many educators are quite hesitant to integrate technology into the classroom. It is uncomfortable for them to change. For many people that have spent many years using the same types of teaching strategies it can be extremely difficult to all of a sudden do things really differently. Teachers may feel like if they do not use the same materials that they have been using it is a big waste of time. Even though it is hard, the teachers must realize that as the times change, and kids change, instructional methods also need to be revamped. Even so, after they have spent many years putting together the materials, it feels to them as if it is a big waste of their effort if they are not utilized. Each persons take on technological devices is different. It may vary from person to person and from school to school. Some may not have access to things like document cameras with annotation software, Voting Systems and audience response systems, or student response clickers in the classroom. Often times this is due to a deficit in money. Another reason why the educator may not use tech in the class is that they do not know how to use the devices, or they might be stubborn about changing the way they are instructing. For people who do have the funds and interest in adding some tech to the educational experience of their students, there are many types to pick from.

Three of the most popular devices to integrate into a classroom or business setting include: document cameras with annotation software, voting systems and audience response systems, or student response clickers in the classroom. Each item is useful in its own way.

Document Cameras with annotation Software are often used to project graphics and words from a computer screen to a large screen for classroom viewing. This increases the ease for people to give speeches, do power point presentations, play games in the classroom, and share slide shows of pictures and various other types documents.

Voting Systems and audience response systems are also essential to conferences and business meetings. These systems avoid having to tear up small pieces of paper and vote the old fashioned way. Instead, the employees can easily vote either in secrecy or publicly through the technical device.

Student response clickers are another quite popular tool to use in the classroom. They allow teachers to monitor which students have answered questions. More learners have the opportunity to be tested and participate in class. Some educators are not fond of the idea of using technology during their lessons, but over time they may become more comfortable. The benefits include: improving classroom management, increasing engagement, and decreasing distractions.
