subject: Know All About The Gmat Books [print this page]

The Graduate Management Aptitude Test is an adaptive online exam given by students all over the world to get admission in the management schools of US, Canada and Europe. The right guidance before sitting for the exam is essential to crack the exam but above everything is the material that you are solving for practice. It is very important to have the right set of GMAT books to be successful in the exam.

The official guide for GMAT

One of the best books that you can use to get a hands-on experience before the exam is the official guide. The book seems almost perfect with the apt set of questions in all the four sections. The best thing about this book is the varied levels of questions it gives you in each section which enables you to move progressively towards your goal. It maintains the level of questioning to be similar to the level you get into the actual test. The only drawback of this book is the explanation of the problems. At times the author has assumed that the reader knows a lot of stuff and hence some of the topics has not been very elaborate in explaining the concept which is especially prevalent in the case of the quantitative section. In spite of this, the official guide is one of the must haves for GMAT.

Kalpan

When it comes to GMAT, solving one book is just not enough. You need to go beyond the official guides to get a better exposure and be able to develop more. In such an exam, you need supplementary books for different areas, particularly the ones in which you are weak. Kalpan is such a book. It helps the student to solve more difficult questions once his base is developed. Taking Kalpan as a textbook might not be suggested, but as a supplement, once you are clear with your basics is a thumbs-up.

EZ Series

This is a series of books which acts more like a test preparation series for various sections of the GMAT. This series is particularly helpful for those students who have realized their weak sections and want to work on them. As this series generally have different books for different sections of GMAT, it becomes easy to practice section wise. The best thing about this series is that they start from the basic level and move up to the level of the actual test. The only bad thing about this book is the high cost and the time associated with it. The actual benefit comes if you solve all the questions but that comes only with a great time.

Barrons

One of the best GMAT study books which has covered most concepts. In spite of this it has not delved deeply into any of the concepts leaving it as a book for quicker preparation.

Overall it can be said that one needs to practice a lot to clear GMAT. A single book might not be enough, but it depends upon student to student. One needs to analyze his own strengths and weaknesses before deciding on the GMAT books that he should buy.
