subject: 10 Halloween Costumes And Safety Tips! [print this page]

There will definitely be loads of children walking around the neighborhood during Halloween night.

Aside from making plans for the event,

children will also be knocking on your door, asking for goodies.

So you have to be ready for them by practicing these safety tips;

1)If you are going to be home the entire evening,

keep your porch lights and any other exterior lights on,

so that they know that they can come knock on your door.

2)If you live on a busy street whwer there is lots of traffic passing regularly,

go out to monitor the cars and tell the drivers not to speed, or slow down!

Check to make sure that there are no acts of malicious mischief or crimes taking place against the children.

Should you notice something out of place,

report this immediately to the police by dialing 911.

3)For individuals who have candlelit pumpkins on their front porch,

make sure that it is placed a good distance from your steps and landings.

Children may try to play with it, or even worse,

their costumes may catch fire, and then you will have a huge problem on your hands to deal with.

As an alternative try to use electric lights instead.

4)When carving a pumpkin or working on a lantern,

do not let the kids touch any of the sharp objects.

5)Let your children decide what costume they want to wear Halloween night.

Just make sure that the outfit they chose to wear is flame resistant,

and that it is not to long, as this could cause them to trip or fall.

6)If you own a pet, make sure it is leashed or in a cage,

so that kids who do not know any better will not be discouraged from knocking.

7)When kids knock on the door, give candy to each one.

If they push and shove, tell them to line up, there is plenty for everyone.

Never invite children into your home, so that no one can accuse you later on of anything.

Once everyone's bag is filled, direct the children to the safest route,

so that they can be on their way.

Also, tell them to have their parents check their goodies first, before consuming it.

8)Since everybody is going to give candy, you can be different, if you wish,

and give out healthy treats! Such as:

a)raisins

b)pretzels

c)biscuits

This will not damage their teeth compared to candy.

They are also easier to chew and swallow.

9)Most children will go trick or treating in the late afternoon or early evening.

Since you do not want to get a knock at ten or eleven in the evening,

place a sign up that says you will be giving out candy until a certain time.

10)If your children go out trick or treating, remind them of a few things,

such as,

a)go around the neighborhood with a group

b)do not take candy from strangers

c)visit homes of people they know

d)look both ways before crossing the street

e)come home at a certain time and have the candy inspected before before eating it.

Nobody wants anything bad to happen during Halloween.

Practice and follow these safety tips and have a fun Halloween!
