Foreigners who are fascinated by the history and culture of Germany and always wanted to be part of this amazing EU country can take a sigh of relief, as Germany has introduced German EU Blue Card for skilled professionals.

The EU Blue Card is very much similar to USA Green Card. The Blue Card initiative is intended to attract highly qualified and skilled professionals to Germany. This got effective from 1st August 2012. In addition to the German Recognition Act, which facilitates the recognition of foreign skilled professional"s credentials, various changes have been made to the German Residence Act. This has been done to implement the EU's Directive on highly educated and qualified workers.

German EU Blue Card is a work cum residence permit which gives the opportunity and right to non-EU nationals to work and stay in the country. This is a perfect gateway to PR in European Union.

Eligibility Required to Apply for EU Blue Card:

This card is only designed for citizens of non-EU- country. They should meet the following criterion to be eligible for German EU blue card:

A) Foreign national needs to have a German or an accredited foreign or a university degree which is as per German standards

B) Foreign nationals need a valid job offer letter with a minimum gross annual income of at least 44.800 "' (3733 Euros per month)

For foreign nationals who get jobs in shortage occupations like scientists, mathematics, engineers, doctors and It should have minimum compensation of 34,944 "' per annul (2912 Euros per month).

Foreign nationals with masters degree education and work experience need to apply for EU blue card from their country and once their application gets accepted by German embassy and they are issued a visa, they can come to Germany to work and stay.

German EU blue card is initially issued for 4 years but it depends on the working contract period. If working contract period is less, the validity for the EU blue card will also be less. This is an extendable visa. After a certain period the foreign skilled professionals would be eligible for PR and can move to any European Union country and settle there.

Holders of German EU Blue Card will be awarded PR if:

" They are in highly qualified jobs for minimum of 33 months

" They can give proof of having paid compulsory contributions

" They can demonstrate having language skills at level B1

Germany settlement permit would be granted after a period of 21 months of initial application submission.
