It was the only search engine which created a giant market in terms of revenue and traffic both. Today we can see the potential of both SEO and Adwords in terms of google which is growing at an exponential level.
Now the search engines have gone beyond by introducing the semantic web (Web 3.0) as the results now fetched are from every network including Web 2.0. Hence its easy to get the latest update on search engines itself like Tweets, Facebook page updates, Videos, News etc. There is no doubt in saying that search engines rules the web, although social media has created a new market within itself but search is going to stay for a very long time.
