With Halloween being the next big celebration of the year it seems only fitting that the gothic clothing trend is absolutely huge at the moment. Everywhere you look you will see gothic-style clothing in the shops and being worn by fashionistas, but if you have never dabbled in this kind of fashion before you might feel a bit out of your depth.

However, you certainly wont be alone, as gothic fashion has long been a bit of a subculture that isnt brought into the spotlight often. Many people assume that gothic clothing is just about wearing black, but there is a lot more to it than this. There are all kinds of different fabrics and patterns that can be used in the gothic clothing trend to perfect it.

The gothic trend can be administered to any outfit as well, and it can be ideal for a range of settings too. For instance, you could wear gothic clothing to your workplace, on a night out, to a formal event and casually. When wearing gothic clothing it can be important to not go overboard though as, with any trend, you can have too much of a good thing. Knowing when to glam gothic clothing up and when to tone it down is easy though, all you need to do is carry out a bit of research online and pick and choose your clothes carefully.

If you have a formal event coming up, such as a charity event or a big dinner party, it would serve as the ideal chance to take the gothic trend to the extreme. Gothic evening dresses are all the rage at the moment, and you could get one that makes excellent use of sheer fabric, lace, velvet, leather or some of the many other popular fabrics for the gothic trend.

The workplace can be the ideal setting for a splash of gothic too you could go for a black dress with lace detailing, a sheer shirt, a black leather pencil skirt or a gothic-style peplum. If your workplace adheres to a strict dress code though you should keep this trend quite toned down, as it can be seen by some as a bit unprofessional.

When lounging around the house you can make use of the many patterns and prints that have become popular with the gothic trend. Skull prints are absolutely huge right now and you can get everything from leggings to jumpers that have skull motifs on. Spikes are also big, so go for a pair of spiked slipper shoes or a blazer with appliqued spikes on the shoulders.
