subject: Perfect Finishing Touches Require The Right Window Furniture [print this page]

Whenever designing, building and installing new windows for a home there is always one major challenge that people face; how should the window be finished off in order to make it fit seamlessly with the home? This issue has traditionally been felt more by those building and installing sash windows, after all there is a great deal of craftsmanship that goes into their construction and they should be furnished with the same level of care. However, as casement or UPVC windows become increasingly common it is now more important than ever that quality window furniture is considered no matter what the situation. This article looks at the way in which simple changes in window furniture can have an impact on the way a window fits into a home.

Traditional Homes

Many traditional homes in the UK use sash style windows as these were once the simplest style to build and fit. The issue with many traditional sash windows is that they would have only been built to hold a single glass pane however; the 21st century understanding of efficiency often dictates that homes now use double glazing. In order to achieve both a traditional look and have all the benefits of modern double glazing, the sash windows will often need rebuilding from scratch and it is here that the importance of the right finishing touches is felt most. Using traditional or antique style window furniture such as ring pulls and sash lifts will effortlessly blend in the brand new windows and act as the perfect finish to a great new installation.

Designer Homes

Modern homes very rarely use traditional sash windows and instead opt for the relatively recent innovation of UPVC windows. These are often cheaper, quicker and easier to install and while they would look out of place in an older styled home they certainly fit in with 21st century living. Even with these modern windows, there are still important considerations to be made in terms of finishing touches and how they can change the way new windows integrate into a room. One of the best ways in which to change the look of a modern window is by fitting different coloured espag window handles. For example, chrome UPVC window handles would fit in with a calm, contemporary living room whereas the use of brass window handles would look better in a warmer coloured room. On many modern UPVC windows the only thing that can be easily changed is the colour of the handle so it makes it all the more important to get the right style when installing.
