subject: 4 Seo Tips To Rank Higher In Google Image Search [print this page]

With Google Image Search results being incorporated into more and more Web search queries, nowadays, Image Search and optimizing for it is now becoming important for online businesses, according to SEO company experts.

In February 2012, it was announced by Google that more queries on Googles Web search would now include images to show relevant images to a larger number of searches than before.

Now, with also over a billion page views per day, ranking highly in Google Image Search can be very beneficial in terms of being an excellent source of traffic and potential leads.

So here are some tips to rank higher on image search utilized by many professional SEOs:

1. Optimized Image Name

Instead of using the generic alpha-numeric names that you automatically get after downloading images from your digital camera, change the filename to something descriptive and upload itto your hosting environment with location such as www.yourdomain.com/images/image-search-tips.jpg.

Make sure also that the name you use should be a kind of description of what can be seen on the picture. With this, you've not only described the image and named it in the URL, but also helped Google get a lot of information about the photo as well as provide a good descriptive file name that Google can also use as the snippet for the image file.

2. Make Sure to Add Alt Tags

Make sure that each image you have should have an alt-text in the image-attribute. This will help in associating the image directly with a set of texts, helping people browsing your page know what the image is all about even when they do not load the images. And because search engines can't see pictures, a keyword-rich alt attribute in an image tag will provide the search engines a set of information that they need to "read" as well as use as quasi-anchor text if the image is used as a link. Take note to use more descriptive alt text but do not stuff it with keywords.

3. Include a Title Tag

This title attribute will appear when one hovers over the image. Though there are some who claim that this attribute has no direct effect on the ability of images to rank, others also believe it does hold image-based ranking value as well as increase the keyword relevance. However, whichever is which, in the long run, this attribute can be of use to visitors.

4. Add Page Copy

Make sure to add copy around the image and a title and heading to the page. This will help reinforce the image content as well as enable Google to put your image in context. In the same way that Google reads your page for traditional SEO relevancy, Google also reads your images to determine the relevancy of the images on that page.
