Halloween is just not the same without a pumpkin!

It is like Christmas without a tree.

You can buy one already carved or, if you prefer, you can do it yourself!

In this article I will teach you the steps.

Go get a pumpkin from your local supermarket or pumpkin/apple orchard.

Once you get the pumpkin home, you and your kids decide together, what kind of face the pumpkin will have.

There are several choices such as, angry, happy,

or something amusing that your friends and neighbors will find very entertaining.

Now with a pen, outline where the eyes, mouth and nose are going to be placed.

Once the pumpkin is cleaned out, cut holes where the outlines have been marked for the face.

But wait before you fo that, put the pumpkin on a surface that is covered with newspaper,

for easy cleanup and disposal later on once you are through with carving.

Using a serrated knife, cut a circle around the stem of the pumpkin,

and place it on the newspaper.

Now that the pumpkin is open, it should be fairly easy for you and your family to get all the contents out.

Since the content inside is edible,

place them in a container and save them for future use.

For there are a couple things that be made with it, such as, a pumpkin pie or a salad.

If there is any remaining residue, then use a spoon or a spatula to scoop it out.

Also, you want to make sure that you do not forget the lid of the pumpkin as well!

It is also a good idea to poke holes through the lid

so that heat can escape from candle that will be eventually placed inside the pumpkin after it is carved.

Now, cut into the areas previously marked with a pen.

Again, using a serrated knife, cut around the edges so it will be easy to push the pieces out with your hand.

After you have finished this,

place a wax candle, or if you wish, for safety reasons,

use a battery operated candle or device, so that

people can see your creation at night!

Now, if you decide to use a wax candle, make sure that you keep an eye on it,

just in case the wind blows it out.

If you chose to use an electric light instead,

then the light will only go out when you switch it off or unplug it from the socket.

Your growing experience with pumpkin carving will increase and make it more fun and easy!

So you will start to have so much fun with it that,

you will want to make more and use them to;

1)decorate around the house

2)place them in your windows

3)and outside on your porch and in your garden

Another thought,

keep in mind that open pumpkins do not last long,

so it is best to prepare them the night before.

There are ways to keep your pumpkin fresh, and to keep it from drying out overnight.

1)the first option is place it in a tub of cold water with pumpkin powder.

2)place it inside the refrigerator, while it is not being displayed.
