If it happens, the feature could be quite useful for both individual users and iPhone developers. iPhone developers would certainly love this feature and apply it on a variety of businesses and entertainment applications. Smart Bezel utilizing the edges

The new iPhone 5 is coming with 0.5 inch larger screen, but it still has awful bezel space that can be utilized for adding more features and productivity to the device. Apple has submitted a patent that shows how extra space can be used to add secondary touch screen displays. The company could use the extra space to display virtual buttons. These buttons could appear and disappear as per the functionality of the app. iPhone developers would be able to add a lot of exciting features to additional displays.

An additional E-Paper layer

If Apple adds an additional layer to the display for reading purpose, it could be an extraordinary feature. For now, iPhone 5 has glossy retina display. Apple has designed it to show up photos and videos more clearly. But retina display is not good for text. Texts appear blurry on this display. Apple has submitted a paten that shows it could join a standard video display and add an e-paper layer to retain display.

IPhone with a transparent display

A patent submitted by Apple shows how iPhones camera can show the live video to overlay information on it. Apples idea for augmented reality is amazing. iPhone developers can use this feature in range of apps. It will help people instantly get more information about what camera is seeing. The patent also indicates that Apple has plans to add transparent display to future iPhones and other iDevices.
